Destination: Wye Valley

Description: The walks start on the Offas Dyke national trail leading out of Chepstow and we follow it before crossing the Wye and coming back on the Wye Valley Walk trail into Chepstow. As well as passing Tintern Abbey we pass Chepstow castle, the Devils Pulpit viewing point and viewing points in Wyndcliff Woods. It’s a 18km walk through woodland for some of the route with 670m of total ascent and the highest point at 225m. The terrain is a gentle steady climb to start before we drop down to the river crossing and then back up to walk back along the other side.

We can make no guarantee about this precise itinerary as we consider factors such as safety, fitness, natural obstacles and weather conditions. With this is mind, we reserve the right to change the plans should the forecast be unfavourable for the day.

Suitability: We aim to be inclusive and encourage a willingness to explore, we also welcome all ages and abilities where possible. This is suitable for people with some hill-walking experience including experience walking in rough, untracked terrain and off footpaths. A good head for heights and some experience of scrambling or being comfortable on exposed ground is desirable. This could be in the UK or overseas. You should be physically and mentally fit enough to be able to spend up to 8+ hours walking in the mountains.

Travel: The starting point is approximately 30 minutes from central Bristol by car with a number of public transport options to travel.

Kit List: A comprehensive kit list will be provided at time of booking and again prior to the trip. Bring enough food for lunch and snacks as you will be out most of the day. Also bring two litres of water. If you have any questions about the best kit to take then we can advise.

Cost: The price is for one days guiding and includes the services of an experienced and qualified Mountain Leader. The cost is per person and does not include your accommodation, food or travel.

Cancellation Policy: We need to have a minimum of five people for an event to run. If it does not meet the minimum, then we reserve the right to cancel with 7 days notice and a full refund will be given. We cannot be held liable for additional costs you may have incurred (eg accommodation, transport).

Booking cancellations must be made in writing or email. If you choose to cancel more than 28 days before an event takes place, we will refund you 50% on the total cost. If you cancel 28 days or less before an event takes place, no payment will be returned. We may offer credit towards future events in place of a refund.

Covid-19 Policy: If you test positive for Covid 19, experience the recognised symptoms of a continuous cough and/or a high temperature and/or loss of taste and/or smell, been in close contact with someone else who has tested positive, had symptoms, in the 7 days prior to attending an event please stay at home. Please refer to our revised Covid-19 Cancellation Policy in the Booking Guidelines, we will transfer your money to the next suitable date.

You agree to bring a facemask and hand sanitiser and to use it when/if directed during the event. While it is likely that we will not be in a situation where a mask is needed for the duration of/ part of the event we ask you to bring an appropriate face covering to be worn if close contact is required or social distancing is not possible. You can use a facemask, reusable or disposable, or a buff or scarf that can be folded to create ideally 3 layers. You are welcome to wear a face covering at any point that you feel more comfortable doing so. Arriving at an event without a face covering may result in refusal to attend.

Insurance: We strongly recommend you take out appropriate trip insurance to cover for unforeseen events that may cause you to cancel your booking. BMC offer very good insurance so please do consider this.


Booking: Once payment is complete a place will be reserved on the event and you will be emailed a Medical Form, Informed Consent Form and the Booking Conditions Form. All three will need to be completed prior to the event starting. A copy of these forms will be emailed to you for your records, together with a suitable kit list and more contact information.

Lightfoot Leaders: The leaders are experienced and qualified Mountain Leaders who have suitable outdoor first aid training and insurance. Should you need to contact Lightfoot then please use the contact form or email address provided.

IMPORTANT: we can make no guarantee about the precise itinerary as we have to consider factors such as safety, fitness, natural obstacles and weather conditions. No matter how much we would like to guarantee good weather and a perfect mountain day, this is the UK and mountain weather is not that predictable. Bearing that in mind we have to carefully consider the weather and reserve the right to change the plans should the forecast be unfavourable for the day. Your safety and enjoyment are more important than us dragging you up a mountain.
