Night Navigation

We love walking at night and this workshop is about learning to navigate in the dark, low light or low visibility (think hill fog!). Without the land visible to us we need to learn to feel the ground with our feet. Ideally you would have some basic navigation skills already as this will allow you to progress more, bit this evening is also open to anyone who wants to explore more in the dark. Prior to the course starting we will email a kit list for you to consider, a head torch being vital!!! We will also issue a map & compass for use.

Wild Camping Skills

Whether you want learn new skills or simply to camp out in the wilds and have an adventure, this weekend is for you.  Lightfoot Adventures aim to encourage others to plan and engage in their own expeditions safely and responsibly.

The weekend starts in a bunkhouse where we discuss kit choice, packing, food options and decide a route for Saturday with a suitable spot to wild camp. On Saturday morning we leave to navigate to our evenings destination where we set up tents and discuss what makes a good camp spot, legality and how to minimise impact.  On Sunday we break camp and return back to the bunkhouse, navigating again as a team.

We will provide comprehensive kit lists for what you should need and we have some kit that can be lent out so feel free to ask when booking.

Mountain Skills

Snowdonia National Park has a number of incredible mountain ranges in a relatively small area. The northern area is popular and includes the Snowdon massif, the Glyderau and the Carneddau. The second includes Moel Siabod, Cnicht, the Moelwynion and mountains around Blaenau Ffestiniog. The third area includes the Rhinogs in the west as well as the Arenig and the Migneint, and the fourth being the southern area including Cadair Irdris, Tarren range, the Dyfi hills and the Aran group.

If you’ve never walked in this National Park, or have but want to build up more confidence in your abilities, then Lightfoot have developed this trip to introduce you to navigating in more remote areas, mountain safety and moving on more technical terrain.

Over three days we’ll introduce mountain navigation & route finding, offering the opportunity to practice map reading, as well as showing you what technical terrain you might encounter. We will lead you on the scramble routes so you can build on your existing experience and give you confidence to tackle more interesting routes yourself.
